Project Managers for the Food & Beverage project
This project is focused on assisting the growth and sustainability of the food and beverage industry within the Wairarapa. This project is targeted at the large to medium size businesses within this industry.

Mentoring for businesses in the ‘Activate’ programme
The activate programme was brought to the Wairarapa through Grow Wellington. The Chamber was asked to assist through mentoring 4 of the 8 businesses involved. This programme concluded on the 16th June 09 however the Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce is still assisting these businesses as and when they require.

Wairarapa BIZ Information office
This is a free service offered to anyone who is looking at starting a business or who is in business and requires information or assistance with where to go for advice.

Wairarapa Enterprise Training Provider
This is a fully funded training programme run through the Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. These courses are focused on businesses 50 staff and less to assist in up-skilling, training and best business practices. The main aim of this contract is to assist SME’s in increasing their sustainability and skill base.

Business Breakfast & Networking Events
These events are great for networking and keeping abreast with what is going on both nationally and regionally. The breakfast speakers are always of the highest caliber. The After 5’s are a great way to meet other business people and basically have a drink and relax.

Wairarapa SSE Facilitator
This position in aimed at working with the Horticulture and Viticulture Industry and assisting with up-skilling employers into best practice.

 Wairarapa Hort/Vit Governance Group Facilitator
The Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce has been approached by central government to facilitate a Horticulture and Viticulture Governance Group. This group is made up of Industry representatives, Government Representatives from Department of Labour and Ministry of Social Development as well as the National Seasonal Coordinator for New Zealand and the New Zealand Master Contractors Chair.

 Wairarapa Seasonal Coordinator
This contract is held with HortNZ. The Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce was approached by HortNZ and Government to oversee and manage a Seasonal Coordinator role for the Central Region. The first targeted area for this role will be Wairarapa Viticulture. The role is to assist in the supply and demand of labour concentrating on New Zealanders first, training and compliance. The role is yet to be confirmed as we are awaiting confirmation of funding.

 IRD Number - Verification office
The Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce is also a verification office for IRD Numbers due to the influx of overseas workers requiring IRD numbers throughout the season. The Chamber has been given permission by the Inland Revenue to take on this role within the region.

 Wairarapa Film Office
There is no funding for this project however the Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce understands the economic advantages of working with this industry. This is an area that we do not spend a lot of time on at the moment due to lack of funding.

 Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce – Wairarapa Business Website
This is an area we are moving into with the launch of our new website. This gives us the ability to offer our members a very cost effective website within our website. They will be offered up to five pages that they then control and have access to, this also has the ability for the businesses to have their own URL address take them directly to their pages within our website. This is a very cost effective website and technology based tool that we can offer at a very competitive rate.

 Enhancing council relations
This is an ongoing relationship that the Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce believes is very important to ensuring a cohesive direction for the region. This will always be an ongoing, positive and mutually rewarding area that the Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce board and management see as only getting stronger with time.

 On-Line Situations Vacant
This is a great service that we have introduced to assist our business community in finding the right staff. Finding a job within Wairarapa can be difficult, to do so on-line (which is becoming the way of the future) is almost impossible, as you must search under Wellington and then filter through to specific areas in Wairarapa.
Our service is aimed at Wairarapa people wanting to stay and work in Wairarapa and we look forward to many of our businesses using this service. There is a minimal cost per month for this service.

 Paid Training Courses
There is the possibility that all New Zealand Trade and Enterprise fully funded training courses may cease in July 2010. Therefore the Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce has decided to introduce paid training now to ensure our business community continue to have the opportunity to up-skill themselves and their staff and are used to the fact that they will need to invest in this.

 ‘Your Space’
This is an area within our Wairarapa Chamber of Commerce office that has been designed as an area for our members to come to should they need a space in between meetings or just to have some time out. There is a couch to relax on, have a coffee and catch up on notes, work or just relax and read the paper. The staff will leave you to it and you can become part of our team for a while!
