Retail |
There are retail centres in each of the five towns in the Wairarapa.
Each has a slightly different focus for example, Greytown based retail outlets tend to be focussed towards the visitor/tourist market, particularly on customers from Wellington and are open throughout the weekend, whereas Carterton retail businesses tend to be more locally-oriented and tend to close by midday Saturday.
The region boasts a healthy mix of national chains, franchises and locally owned and operated stores. Many of the latter have been in business for many years. In recent years a number of national chains have opened for business particularly in Masterton.
Competition tends to be with local customers choosing to take their business “over the hill”.
Masterton has a council funded business promotions group.
